I get a comment almost every week from someone asking what meds I take. This totally makes sense… People see someone they assume has their “Bipolar s*** together” and helping others to manage theirs. It’s like “I’ll have what that guys having” right? I also see this in online support forums all the time. People ask things like “what’s the best mood stabilizer,” or “what’s the best combination of meds” or “what meds have the least side-effects?”
Let’s say I tell you all exactly what I take and some of you follow the same protocol. This would be like getting the same prescription reading glasses as your friend because their glasses helped them to see better. I’d run into a wall if I put my partner’s glasses on… With psych meds, what works for one person could be catastrophic for the next. Those of you who have tried several medications know exactly what I’m talking about. Some people could experience horrible side-effects or even be hospitalized if they took what I do. The same thing could happen to me if I took what someone else takes.
I’m not a medical doctor and there’s no way I want the liability of telling someone what to take. What if they became suicidal? I’m extremely sensitive to some medications and have to use a micro-dose for some of them to be effective. For others, that dose wouldn’t even touch their symptoms. Is this starting to make sense? These are the kinds of things we will discuss in this video from Polar Warriors.
