Up until VERY recently, mental health struggles were among a family’s best-kept secrets. My parents, and especially my grandparents generation didn’t grow up using the term “mental health.” That’s relatively new. People were either “normal” or “crazy.” I’m not a fan of either of those words, but they reflect society’s limited understanding of brain science at the time. Mind you, the internet wasn’t at our fingertips, so informative resources were very limited.
