THE BIPOLAR HAPPY BOX – Polar Warriors

Salutations Warriors!

If you are feeling a little down, I have a simple technique that might provide you with some relief on a funky day. This technique was shared with me by our Social Media Manager Rachel McKinnon. We will call it “The Polar Warrior Happy Box.” Here’s what you do… Get some kind of box or container about the size of a shoe box. Fill it with as many things you can that make you feel good. Some examples would be pictures of friends, special people, or special moments in your life. Maybe include some scented candles or aromatherapy. Throw in some stress putty, kinetic sand, or a stress ball. You can also write a letter of encouragement to your future self, or include some greeting cards from friends. If there’s a move or series you’ve been wanting to see, maybe buy it and save it in the box for a rainy day. Oh, and chocolate! Lots and lots of chocolate!

If you are making a Happy Box for someone else, maybe include an Amazon gift card, a certificate for a massage, or a meal voucher at their favorite restaurant. Remember to switch it up. Maybe have a few different boxes for bad days. If you use the same box all the time, the items might lose some of their efficacy.

As with all the techniques I share on this channel, timing and realistic expectations are important. A Polar Warrior Happy Box isn’t a magic fix-all. In fact it might not work well if your symptoms progress past a certain point. That doesn’t mean that the technique is bad… It just means that the timing wasn’t right. We all have our own “brand” of Bipolar Disorder and have to try different things to figure out what works for us. If this technique isn’t for you, I have many more videos in our growing playlist titled “Bipolar Tools That Help.” I hope you find something in there that resonates with your life.

If there’s a technique or tool that helps you during the hard times, please share it in the comments. Sharing what works is literally what the Polar Warrior Community is all about. In fact, if you go back to the very first video I ever uploaded, it’s a technique called “bilateral stimulation.” Since day one, we’ve focused on solution-based strategies for coping with Bipolar Disorder.
