Bipolar Disorder Mindfulness Technique: “Warrior Slow!” – From Polar Warriors:
“Salutations Warriors! This week I have a new mindfulness technique I’d like to share with you all. It’s extremely simple which is one of the reasons why I like it so much. Over the years, I’ve shared many different mindfulness techniques on this channel. We have to try different things to figure out what works for us. If it’s 2 am and you can’t get to sleep because of some racing thoughts, give this one a try…
Find a comfortable place to sit, close your eyes, and relax your body for a minute or two. Instead of indulging in thought or that song stuck in your head, I want you to voicelessly recite the phrase “Warrior slow.” Say it over and over again in your head for a minute.
Next, start to put pauses between the syllables: War…ri…or…slow…..War…ri…or…slow….. Just like that. As you continue, gradually increase the length of pauses in between syllables… War…………ri………..or…………slow…… If you start to notice thoughts coming in between the pauses, speed it up again… War…ri…or…slow…..War…ri…or…slow….. This will crowd out the thoughts so you can try lengthening the pauses again. War……..ri…….or……..slow……
The more you practice this, the longer the spaces between the syllables will become. It’s in those spaces that you will experience some moments of inner silence.
As with all the techniques I share, you have to keep your expectations down-to-earth. Sometimes this technique works for me, while other times it isn’t enough to penetrate my noisy mind. The more techniques we have, the more chances we might find something that provides some relief from symptoms, so keep building up your Polar Warrior toolbox.
